U.S. Customs and Border Patrol won a significant de-escalation of illegal border crossing during fiscal year 2020. But as the new calendar started ticking again on Oct. 1, the campaign promises made by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to open the U.S. southern border and end deportations has security unraveling. The result has been an unchecked and undocumented surge in coronavirus spread rates.
“They go through high COVID locations, often packed and jammed in overcrowded stash houses both in the United States and/or in Mexico or locked in tractor-trailers for days or often weeks,” CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan reportedly said. “A journey in which they completely disregard even the most basic medical guidance to mitigate the spread of the deadly disease. They’re telling us their own economic conditions are more important than the lives of American citizens and all of those they come in contact with during their deadly journey.”
The Trump Administration brokered an unprecedented cooperation deal known as “Remain in Mexico.” It prompted our direct southern neighbor to safely house Central American immigrants awaiting asylum petitions to be processed. Only a fraction meet the credible-threat standards, and most are returned to their country of origin. In turn, Mexico secured its southern border to stop the wave of criminals and miscreants who infiltrated migrant caravans. The success rates saw Central American border crossing plummet. According to Customs and Border Patrol data, single adults apprehensions from the following countries of origin dropped from fiscal year 2019 to 2020.
- El Salvador: 20,893 to 9,960
- Guatemala: 48,606 to 27,948
- Honduras: 44,981 to 25,152
Family units encountered by Border Patrol agents also plummeted from 2019 to 2020.
- El Salvador: 56,897 to 4,335
- Guatemala: 185,233 to 10,905
- Honduras: 188,416 to 10,485
Vulnerable children being used by coyotes and cartels also saw a remarkable decline.
- El Salvador: 12,021 to 2,189
- Guatemala: 30,329 to 8,390
- Honduras: 20,398 to 4,454
Only Mexicans saw an increased number of border crossings from fiscal year 2019 through 2020. That indicates regional stabilization not experienced in more than a decade.
But with the encroachment of left-wing political power, illegal immigration already began to an uptick in October. A troubling number of apprehensions have already transpired because Joe Biden made campaign promises of no deportations for 100 days. Unaccompanied minor encounters surged by 63 percent over the previous two Octobers. Adult encounters skyrocketed by 150 percent.
Texas continues to see coronavirus infection spikes in counties along the border. Brewster, Presidio, Jeff Davis, Culberson, Reeves, and El Paso counties were recently considered COVID hotspots. Eastern Texas, including highly populated Harris Country, experienced declines. In New Mexico, Dona Ana and Luna counties suffered increases along the border as well.
“The smugglers, they could care less about the migrants. They could care less about their wellbeing, their lives, or that these conditions serve as active COVID-19 incubators resulting in the further introduction and spread of COVID-19 within the United States,” Morgan reportedly said, adding migrants “recklessly disregarded our pain, our suffering, and our sacrifice.”
Biden has done far more damage than Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and her radical extremists did with their promises of “Sanctuary Cities” and free money. Biden and Harris have teamed up to attract infected migrants by the thousands, and Americans will die.
