Texas Governor Greg Abbott referred to the Biden Administration as a “man-made disaster” when speaking about the crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border earlier this week.
Governor Abbott has often times been forced to act independently to secure the border, which has seen a surge of illegal migration and human trafficking since the Biden Administration took over. Under the auspices of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, migration levels have skyrocketed as tens of thousands of illegals have been allowed to enter the interior.
According to the Texas governor, the problem isn’t a lack of laws — it’s a lack of enforcement.
“Failure to enforce laws that exist in the United States leads to chaos and chaos leads to inhumanity,” Abbott said.
Breitbart reports that well over 200,000 migrants appeared at the U.S.-Mexico border in July alone. About half of them were allowed to enter the interior without the approval of a judge. A similar amount appeared at the same spot a month later. Again, Mayorkas released roughly half of the migrants into the country without any sort of legal asylum claim.
Policies like this are set to exacerbate domestic problems here at home. Illegal immigration has been linked to escalating crime rates. There is also the economic threat. Illegal immigrants often price out American labor through under-the-table services. At a time when inflation is skyrocketing and the price of goods is surging, this is the worst time to have an open border. However, the Biden Administration sees fit to look the other way regardless.
Of course, Americans aren’t the only ones that lose to open border policies. They pose an arguably greater threat to the migrants themselves. Having the door swung open encourages many desperate individuals to seek the aid of criminals in their crossing. This results in a surge in human trafficking, which often targets underage women and girls.
Progressives like to claim that a more permissive immigration policy is the humane way to go. As we’ve all been able to see at this point, there is nothing humane about it.
