Kamala Harris Says She’ll Visit the Border “At Some Point”

Vice President Kamala Harris finally told Americans she will visit the nation’s southern border after strong criticisms against her woeful immigration efforts.

“I’ve been to the border before, I will go again,” Harris told reporters on Tuesday, according to the Epoch Times. “You can’t say you care about the border without caring about the root causes. I don’t think that anybody thinks that that would be the solution,” Harris added.

The Harris argument regarding “root causes” has not been well-received by many Americans, including conservative lawmakers triggered at her failure to address the real problems behind the immigration crisis — President Joe Biden’s changed immigration policies.

Texas Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales responded in a tweet, ” I get calls & texts daily from local officials who need help & are looking to our federal government for leadership.”

He added, “Visiting our border is NOT a grand gesture. It means seeing communities that are hurting because of the White House’s absentee leadership.”

Ohio Republican Rep. Brad Wenstrup added a tweet featuring Harris stumbling to answer the border visit question during an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt. He said, “It’s been 75 days since President Biden named VP Harris ‘border czar.’ She refuses to visit the border to see the consequences of this administration’s words and actions. If she was serious about fixing the border, she would at least visit it.”

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz also tweeted on Thursday, “It’s been 79 days since Joe Biden put Kamala in charge of the border. She still has yet to visit the border.”

What will it take to get Harris to the visit the immigration crisis in person? It’s hard to know at this point. She has likely avoided it as the border is a political tornado. There’s almost no way Harris could visit and not look bad based on the recent number of illegal immigrants.

Imagine the vice president stopping along the border as immigrants file in by one by one. Her next stop is at a facility holding more than 1,000 unaccompanied minors, many scared and in cramped conditions. Does that sound like a publicity stop Harris wants to make? No way!

In addition, the longer Harris can avoid the border, the longer Biden’s lax immigration policies can remain in place unchallenged. Yes, conservatives and even some Democrats have called for changes to stop the surge. However, if Harris shows up in person, she’ll have to claim she’s doing something to improve the situation.

If she waits until, say September or October, that will give illegal immigrants enough time to add about one million people to America. That should be enough to satisfy leftist donors in the short term.

The words sound crass, but that’s exactly what it is — a political ploy that is destroying the nation. America can’t wait for 2024 to stop the immigration crisis. It can’t even wait for the midterms in 2022. Every day the border is open puts the nation at greater security risk. And for Harris, there’s also the political risk, meaning her best answer is that she’ll visit the border “at some point.”
