Liberals don’t think the powers that be will be coming for them any time soon, but it’s only a matter of time.
The immediate aftermath of the January 6 riot at the Capitol building was easily predictable. A small portion of Trump supporters stormed the building, some appearing to have truly appalling intensions. You saw that all over social media and in every news report since. You didn’t see the litany of Trump supporters discouraging them from doing that (including Alex Jones, of all people), but that shouldn’t surprise you.
This element of the Republican Party is the easy target for the left — as they always have been. Now, you have the likes of Don Lemon on CNN stretch the narrative as far as it will go, suggesting that everyone who even thought about voting for President Trump — or perhaps even stayed home — is complicit in this sort of political violence.
“If you voted for Trump you voted for the person who the Klan supported,” the CNN host said. “You voted for the person who Nazis support. You voted for the person who the alt-right supports. That’s the crowd that you are in. You voted for the person who incited a crowd to go into the Capitol and potentially take the lives of lawmakers. Took the lives of police officers. Took the lives of innocent lives who were there on the Capitol that day.”
As you can see, it’s not going to stop with Trump supporters. The Marco Rubios and Mitt Romneys of the world will come next. And again — it won’t stop there. Moderate liberals will have their own reckoning as the far-left amasses unchecked political and cultural power.
This is what makes the message Diamond and Silk have so important. During a recent interview on Newsmax TV, the pair double down on their pro-free speech message, noting that people are being attacked for “the color of their politics.”
