Texas Gov. Abbott: Dem Lawmakers Who Fled the State to Avoid Vote will be Arrested

Texas Governor Greg Abbott told Fox News on Monday that Democrats who fled the state to avoid a vote on election integrity would be arrested upon return.

“Isn’t that the most un-Texan thing you’ve ever heard? Texans running from a fight? They’re quitters,” Abbott said. “It’s like during a football game or baseball game, taking their equipment when they’re way behind and just leaving the field. That is not the way that Texas, Texans do things.”

Abbott also said, “Once they step back into the state of Texas, they will be arrested and brought to the Texas Capitol, and we will be conducting business.”

More than 50 Texas Democrat lawmakers fled to Washington, D.C. in protest of Republican efforts to pass an election reform law they allege is racist. During their time in the nation’s capital, the Democrats plan to advocate for the passing of the For the People Act that would nationalize many voting laws.

In fleeing the state, Texas Democrats showed their real intentions. Democrats have no plan to work together in a bipartisan fashion. It is literally “my way or the highway,” despite Democrats being a minority in the Lone Star State.

Worse, the action reveals the lawmakers are failing to do their job and are lawbreakers. The last thing our nation needs is for entire groups of political leaders to stop working and to instead break the laws they are supposed to be making.

It’s hard to see how the effort will help the state’s Democrats at the next election. What will they argue? That they didn’t like what they saw and decided to run away? That doesn’t go over well in Texas –nor in any other part of the country, for that matter. Who wants to elect a representative who leaves the state when things don’t go their way?

Texas Democrats have done something Republicans would never do — giving up and leaving town when they lose. To give one example, look at what former President Donald Trump has done after leaving office. You may or may not agree with his approach, but he certainly hasn’t given up. If anything, he’s making more noise now that ever.

The same is true nationwide. Conservatives lost power in the House and Senate. Did they leave Washington? No. Instead, they’ve fought Biden’s radical agenda and are working to win back the House and Senate in 2022. America’s conservatives voters expect their leaders to fight back, not to run away.

God help us if Texas Democrats are ever put in charge of the military or law enforcement. If this how they handle a law they don’t like, how would they fare against a real bad guy? Our nation is in need of leaders who will step up, not run off.

If Democrats in other states have any sense, they’ll denounce this nonsense and tell their Texas buddies to head home. Sadly, the opposite may become the case. Other states where Democrats are a minority could join in running off to Washington whenever they don’t get their way.

When are you gonna get some balls and really do something like maybe even freeze there bank account and suspend their security clearance for a while.
