Illegal Immigrants Pour into US After Biden’s Policy Change

Asylum seekers told to remain in Mexico during former President Donald Trump’s administration are now pouring into the nation. Their hope is that being inside America’s border will allow them to remain in the nation until a future asylum hearing.

According to Daily Mail, “Men, women, and children from a migrant camp of at least 700 in Matamoros, Mexico, just across the river from Brownsville, Texas, have been crossing into the United States after spending months stuck in Mexico waiting for their cases to be processed.” The report continues, “Migrants hope by entering the US, their cases will be processed faster and it will be difficult to deport them under asylum rules.”

During the Obama administration, asylum seekers could remain in the United States while awaiting a hearing. Former President Trump struck a deal with Mexico that instead allowed asylum seekers to remain on the southern side of the border until their case was heard.

The Biden administration has now changed Trump’s policy, leading to numerous harmful consequences. In addition to increased illegal border crossings, migrant juvenile detention centers have been reopened to hold increased numbers of immigrants.

The Obama Administration’s catch and release program has also been reinstated. This means those arrested for illegally crossing the border are then released until their hearing, allowing even more illegal immigrants to remain within the nation.

These immigrants are not tested for COVID-19 unless they show symptoms, leading to potential health concerns. Despite the Biden administration’s focus on pandemic recovery, its neglect regarding immigrants displays a much different attitude.

But even these immigrant-friendly moves are not enough for some radical Democrats. New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and friends still want to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE). She has already lashed out at Biden on Twitter about reopening “kids in cages,” her reference to the migrant juvenile detention centers.

With more than 3,000 illegal border crossings per day, Biden is on his way to more than a million new illegal immigrants in the next year. This is in addition to the 125,000 immigrants he has approved to legally enter the nation in 2021, up from Trump’s limited 15,000.

Trump’s plan to build a wall was also stopped halfway during construction by a Biden executive order. Though illegal border crossings decreased during Trump’s term, Biden continues to refer to the Trump border wall as racist and wasteful spending.

But whose spending is more wasteful? At least Trump’s actions kept more people from illegally crossing the border. Biden’s plans have led to the opposite, with no end in sight and no plans for improvement. His best hope is to approve a Dreamer related act to give illegal immigrants a path to citizenship and legalize immigrants instead of deporting them.

America has long been a nation of immigrants, but that’s far different than illegal immigration. America is also a nation of laws, or at least it used to be. The left keeps changing the rules, leaving patriotic Americans increasingly concerned about their safety, especially when the rules are being changed by the nation’s commander-and-chief.
