Halloween Cancelled: College Warns Costumes Could “Trigger” Students

Michigan State University sent students an email this week to warn them about Halloween costume choices this weekend, telling COLLEGE students to be mindful of “cultural appropriation.”

The Halloween email text said, “I’m asking you to think about this now, before heading into the excitement of the weekend. Make a plan, be respectful (including being mindful of Halloween costumes that perpetuate stereotypes and cultural appropriation) and do what is best for you, your fellow Spartans and the East Lansing community. Read this article for more information about appropriate costumes.”

The linked article, called “Costume Selection Matters,” was on the school’s website.

“For many visible and invisible identities, Halloween summons more than ghouls and goblins. While most think of Halloween as a time to dress in costume and celebrate all things spooky, it also can become a breeding ground for racist, sexist, culturally insensitive and biased behaviors,” the article said.

After some more SJW talk, the article included with a promotion of “roundtable discussions” to learn about other cultures and offered resources to help report harassment and discrimination and mental health services.

What happened to having fun in a costume and eating candy? The left has taken all the fun out of American life, now including the simple act of dressing up at Halloween.

What the school is really concerned about, however, is anything that could trigger snowflakes. You know, the usual stuff, like blackface, making fun of anything LGBTQ+, anything anti-religious (with usual exceptions for Jews and Christians who seem to be acceptable targets for socialists), or making fun of any indigenous culture. I’m guessing even a laser blaster or lightsaber is borderline now days with the anti-gun people.

Remember when the left used to claim it was loving and inclusive? That was nice. Now progressives tell us what we can and cannot wear on Halloween, complete with lengthy details.

Of course, don’t dare oppose the “recommendations.” If college are sometimes even kicking students out over not being vaccinated as an online student (it really happened), who knows what might take place if a student dresses like an anti-vaxxer or Trump supporter?

You would think telling people to wear a mask for a year and getting a shot is scary enough. Now we’re being told what’s okay to wear for Halloween. Might as well ban all holidays. The left has already highjacked the fun out of the rest of our days.

But college students are fearless. Many will do what they want regardless of the “guidelines.” And will illegal activity is not recommended, a little fun on campus would be preferred over Michigan State’s “misappropriations.” At this rate, old Sparty, the school’s Spartan mascot, may soon be removed for misappropriating ancient Mediterranean culture.

On a serious note, Sparty has already been eliminated from parades due to threat of heat stroke. An exception is made for homecoming. But that’s only if the person wearing the Sparty suit has had a physical, proof of health insurance and has been fully vaccinated. Sad, but literally true.
