Liberals elated at the election of Joe Biden are now worried that there may be something wrong with his health.
During a recent speech, Biden’s voice was clearly hoarse as he cleared his throat multiple times. While he claimed to be suffering from “a slight cold”, others openly wonder if the President-elect has recently been tested for COVID-19.
Scott Detrow from the NPR, the same news organization that steadfastly refused to cover the Hunter Biden email scandal, conceded that the President-elect’s coughing fit was “the most sustained coughing I’ve heard” even though, as Detrow points out, the former VP usually clears his throat during speeches.
Their concern is telling given the fact that, when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had coughing fits on the campaign trail, most of the mainstream news outlets dismissed concerns about her health as “conspiracy theories.”
This time, around, there is no way to hide that Biden is clearly not feeling well. His team is adamant that he cannot possibly have COVID-19 because he tested negative for the virus on the Friday before his speech. Furthermore, he has been taking precautions and hiding in his basement as much as possible. However, there is still a small chance he could have caught it between Friday and the Monday when he gave his speech.
What’s more, the fact that Biden has any sort of sickness should be alarming given the fact that he is getting on in years. At 78 years old, he is set to be the oldest president the United States has ever had.
If the President-elect is actually seriously ill and passes on, and Congress certifies the Electoral College votes on January 6, Congress could object to votes from certain states. If members of both Houses agree, those votes would be considered invalid.
It’s unlikely that such a scenario would give President Donald Trump a second term because the Democrats control the House of Representatives, and a majority vote in that chamber would be needed to invalidate Electoral College votes. However, it could lead to a messy political scenario if divisions in the Democrat party surface during this time. If, however, Biden passes on after Congressional certification of the vote, Sen. Kamala Harris would be inaugurated as President on January 20, 2021.
